Having met and lived in the Shuswap, BC for 11 years Jen and myself have always loved those quaint, hard to find, quirky spots. Whether it was whimsical house on the side of the highway before Sorrento that sold antiques or the cool little restaurant with live music down Mabel Lake Road from Enderby and the awesome cabins with amazing breakfast scones right out the front door on that same road.
A cultivated construction experience, later woodworking practice, lead to us owning our first house; it quickly became our first rental in the small town of Canoe just outside Salmon Arm. We decided if we ever owned a company one day we would call it “Made in Canoe” because for us, this was the base for everything we learned and started together.
Since moving to Cold Lake in 2001 to help take over Contain Enviro Services from my Dad and enjoying success there, we started that company called “Made in Canoe” and developed a rental property portfolio, leaving Contain to go back to what I loved custom woodworking and renovations in 2014.
Enter Beantrees in December 2015. Having been out of the oil industry for a couple years we were ready to try something different. We always thought that Cold Lake could use a cool little coffee shop with some of the great atmosphere we’ve seen throughout our travels. Walking into Beantrees in December and seeing the space, we instantly knew what we would do with it and three weeks later we were owners of a coffee shop. We stayed open for six weeks to get the feel of the business and closed for three weeks to renovate, then reopened March 4th to what you see today!
We have immense pride in what we have accomplished and we are grateful everyday for the amazing individuals that work for us at Beantrees. Never in a million years would we have dreamed of the overwhelmingly positive response that we have received. Never would we have thought that the arts and music scene would take a life of its own and be such a new huge part of our lives. To all the new people we have met in Cold Lake and the new friendships that have started we are so appreciative and look forward to continuing and growing our ideas for a place that people feel at home and treated with the care we all deserve.
Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity and we cannot wait to see what we all can create together!
